Nepal has set aside 10 percent of its land as National Park and wildlife reserves. These wildlife reserves have become very popular among nature lovers the world over. Some of the most interesting and famous national parks are: Chitwan National Park and Bardiya National Park. Chitwan National Park is covered with thick forest and has an area of 1040 square kilometers. It has a diverse flora and fauna. The wildlife includes Royal Bengal Tiger, one horned Rhinoceros, Leopard, Gaur, Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Sambar, Spotted Deer, the Gharial and over 400 species of birds.
Bardiya National Park was formally a hunting reserve. It has total area 961 Sq. kilometers. It has one of the finest sal forest with tracks of Savannah grassland. It houses the largest population of tigers in Nepal.
The other less famous but equally interesting Wildlife reserves of Nepal are Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve, Suklaphant wildlife reserve and Parsa wildlife reserve.
